The analysis of the activity of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) was made in the amniotic and allantoic fluids of 37 pig embryos, 12-195 mm of body length and 22-77 days old. LDH activity was determined by routine LDH reagents of the firm Boehringer, Mannheim. Its values in the amniotic fluid ranged from 0 to 6,434 U/litre, but in more than one half of all specimens they were zero. The values of LDH activity in the allantoic fluid ranged from 4 to 58,293 U/litre and only in two samples they were zero. A weak correlation was found between LDH activity in the allantoic fluid and the age of the embryo. No clear correlation was observed between LDH activity in the allantoic and the amniotic fluid.
