A chemical analysis of pharmacologically active matter has been performed: tannins, mucus and flavonoids of the above-ground parts of Lythrium salicaria L. and Lythrium virgatum L. It was established that the quantity and quality of the tannins in the above-ground parts of L. virgatum correspond to the tannins in the above-ground parts of L. salicaria; that the quantity of mucus in leaves, stalks and flower clusters of L. virgatum surpasses the quantity of mucus in the corresponding parts of L. salicaria; and that the leaves of L. virgatum contain 5 flavonoids - 4 being identical to those in L. salicaria leaves, while the 5th is characteristic of L. virgatum. It was concluded that L. virgatum might have specific medicinal properties because of the content of active substances found, and that the content of the tested material is completely parallel to L. salicaria and can be used as a corresponding drug.
