In the general preface, the authors glanced at the economical significance of seed diseases, delivering the data on harmfulness of dominant pathogens on particular plant species. The factors affecting the performance of the test with the investigations of seed health, were e.g. seed conditions dose of pathogenous inoculum, nutritive medium, temperature, moisture, light, pH and aeration. In this chapter, the recepts for universal nutritive media for growth and diagnosis of both fungi and bacteria were provided, as well. After that, the methods of investigation of seed health were presented. In the special chapter, seed pathogens are grouped mainly according to their botanical origin and the usage, i.e. utility of pathogens (in wheat, oil crops, industrial plants, forage crops, vegetable crops).
