An investigation has been undertaken in order to assess mutual dependence of eight traits and their effect on oil content in three sunflower hybrids (NS-H-26-RM, NS-H-10 and NS-H-62-RM). Highly positive correlations were found between oil content and duration from flowering to maturity, duration from emergence to maturity, 1000-seed mass and white rot (root type). Highly negative correlations were found between oil content and rainfall and relative air humidity in the period from flowering to maturity. Of the eight traits tested, the highest positive direct effect on oil content was exhibited by the duration from flowering to maturity whereas the highest negative direct effect was exhibited by the diameter of the head. The most significant negative and positive direct effects on oil contents were exibited by the duration from flowering to maturity, 1000-seed mass and the diameter of the head.
