Ferlin, F. (Biotehniska fakulteta, Ljubljana (Yugoslavia))
The attempt of a complex evaluation of selective thinning effects in beech forest stands where no cultivation was performed in the first half of the life time is presented in this article. A high stage of response to cultivation measures in the beech trees of relatively old forest stands (60-80 years) has been established. Thinnings improved the forest stand stability in relatively short time (17 years) to a high degree and indirectly, they influenced also the tree quality and vitality. The complexity of the thinning effects can be stated in the majority of candidates in the forest stand which has undergone the thinning process.
