The haul distance effect upon the choice of mechanization for soil works in the construction of erosion-control works is a significant problem. Proper solution of such problems includes finding the rational and economic haul distances (transport zones) for caterpillar tractors, bulldozers based on the technical and exploitation characteristics of different types, working part output and driving power. Based on the investigation results, the following optimal zones for the application of the analyzed machines have been established: 1) for lighter bulldozers TG-75C, between 0 and 60 metres; 2) for medium bulldozers TG-90B, between 0 and 80 metres, for TG-110, between 0 and 100 metres; 3) for heavy bulldozers; TG-140 between 0 and 120 metres, for TG-170B and TG-200 between 0 and 140 metres.
