At all estimated time intervals from 2 to 48 hours the thyroidal uptake of an injected dose of radioactive iodine was two to three times higher in goitrous calves than in controls. Conversion rate of inorganic iodine into organic was approximately twice the value in control calves. T3 and T4 during the first postnatal days of goitrous calves showed similar patterns as in controls. The dams of goitrous calves were hypothyroid. This was an enzooty of congenital simple euthyroid goitre in calves, caused by iodine deficiency in the diet of their dams.
