Investigations were performed on the sperm of two white Holstein-Friesian bulls. Following an evaluation of its quality, the sperm was dissolved in four different solvents: TRIS, TRILADYL, lactic-citrate and lactic. In vitro and in vivo studies showed that TRIS and TRILADYL gave better results, although results on ability to fertilize using the non-return method did not reveal any significant differences in the use of the different solvents. TRIS is recommended for routine work because it is simple to use in the laboratory and it is cheaper than the imported TRILADYL.
