The results of five-year research on the occurence and causes of forest dying in Serbia (Yugoslavia) have been presented. In 1990 dynamics of dying in certain types of forests were monitored. The paper emphasized the basic factors affecting such a state for each forest tree species, their place in succession and the assessment of dying. The results of the application of biological and chemical measures for each type of endangered forests has been given.
