The determined fructose, glucose and sucrose content as well as the total sugar content in grain and the entire maize plant of two hybrids (ZPSC 677 and ZPTC 549) and one population (Su x o2) are presented in this paper. The high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) method was used on the micro Bondapack NH2 column with an acetonitrile-water mixture (85:15). The quality of silage of these hybrids and the population at the full waxy maturity stage was tested. The percentage of volatile organic acids was determined according to Fleag. Nitrogen content in the NH3 form and pH value were also measured. The evaluation of the quality of silage was done according to the obtained results.
