Potato water requirement in the climatic conditions of the Vojvodina Province [Yugoslavia]

Potato water requirement was determined in the field trial which included sprinkling irrigation at various pre-irrigation soil moisture and non-irrigated control. Potato water requirement is 460-480 mm in Vojvodina (Yugoslavia) and other regions with similar climatic conditions. The effect of irrigation was highly significant with respect to potato yield. The lower limit of the optimal soil moisture for potato is 75-80 of field water capacity (FWC). In dry years, potato consumed water from pre-vegetation reserves and can use up to 200 mm water from soil layer of 2 m giving low yields.
