The results presented are based on the trial made in semi-controlled conditions in the glasshouse. Cadmium (Cd) and chromium (Cr) salts were added in 3 and 6 rates to "pseudogley" (acid soil, pH 3.97) and chernozem (pH 6.88). Lucerne and lettuce were used as test crops. The effect of liming and moulding on the uptake of these elements by the said plants was also studied. A much higher cadmium (Cd) mobility was observed on acid than on neutral soils, in which case its accumulation in plants was likewise higher. Improvement measures increased pH value, thus reducing the harmful effect of cadmium (Cd). In contrast, chromium (Cr) is more mobile in neutral environment. Improvement measures, in this case, increase the chromium (Cr) content in the plant matter.
