The fluidized bed drying of Penicillin-G-thermal and exergetic efficiency

A thermodynamic study of discontinual penicillin-G drying was realized by using an original program written in FORTRAN 77. The program includes a mass balance, energy and exergy balances of all process components. Two procedures, used in the thermodynamic analysis, give as a result the energy and exergy efficiencies the values of which differ insignificatly. The intensity of the air velocity at the dryer entrance in the range w=1.5-2.0 m/s is recommended which directly influences the drying efficiency. The thermal and exergetic efficiencies are not significantly changed when the inlet air relative humidity is varied. The increment of the inlet air temperature causes an increment of the thermal efficiency and at the same time, a reduction of the exergenic efficiencies. The values of energy and exergy efficiencies are small in all cases.
