Pollen fertility in blue and hybrid alfalfa genotypes

We tested pollen fertility of ten genotypes of blue alfalfa Medicago sativa L. and ten hybrids of Medicago media Pers. Higher pollen fertility rate was determined in blue alfalfa which was 54.0 and 90.5 in S-6 and S-2 genotypes. Pollen fertility of Medicago media Pers. hybrids was lower and it ranged from 27.8 to 88.7 in M-19 and M-17 hybrids. Half of the genotypes of blue alfalfa Medicago sativa had pollen fertility over 80. The tested hybrids had lower pollen fertility. In five hybrids it was approximately 50 or even below.
