Morphological, growing and pathogenic characters of Gnomonia rostellata (Fr.) Wehm., a parasite of cultivated blackberry
1994
Veselic, M. (Zavod za poljoprivredu "Podrinje", Sabac (Yugoslavia))
Changes which occur in form of several large necrotic spots have been recently observed on infected blackberry canes at the plantations in Serbia (Yugoslavia). Prior to the occurrence of strong white necrosis, dark violet, elliptic spots are formed on the infected bark tissue. Numerous peritheciums found on the surface of necrotic spots have asci containing four double- cell ascospores. The agent fungus was identified as Gnomonia rostellata. An intensive growth of colonies and parasite fructification was obtained on potato medium and at optimal temperature ranging from 15 to 24 deg C. All studied isolates exhibited pathogenicity on artificially inoculated blackberry as well as on the following species: wild blackberry, raspberry, tayberry, strawberry and rose. Season strongly affects successful field inoculation.
