Virus that causes economic damage on sorghum cvs., Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench, in Yugoslavia has been identified as maize dwarf mosaic virus (MDMV). A significant susceptibility of sorghum genotypes to maize dwarf mosaic virus (MDMV) in field condition (719 out of 750 tested) and under inoculation (189 out of 200) was reveiled, as well as resistance in 11 genotypes. It was found that 3 dominant - recesive factors determine susceptibility (symptoms), while resistance is determined by 1 dominant factor of Krish type. By breeding methods, resistance was introduced to cms - lines of grain sorghum, experimental hybrids of grain and silage sorghum and broomcorn as well.
