In this study, we attempted to present a Moorhead's method, as a superior approach in health control, reproduction and selection. Eight animals from the pig-farm in Backa Palanka (Yugoslavia) were used in the experiment. Since animals were in carantine prior to the start of reproduction process, a determination of karyotype in breeding males was demanded. According to the cited method, metaphase spreads were obtained by culturing peripheral blood lymphocytes and subjecting them to a hypotonic solution, fixation and preparation. After microscopic observation particular metaphases were chosen and chromosomes were identified, photographed, and an idiogram was made. The karyotype of all investigated animals was normal, characteristic for pigs (2n = 38). As set by an international model, chromosomes were classified according to their size and shape and position of centromere.
