To evaluate the antiinflammatory effect of prednisolone an "inflammation model" caused by the phlogistic agent - carrageenin - was used. The inflammatory process develops as early as one hour after the application of carrageenin, as edema of the hing paw of the Wistar rat (n = 100), reaching a maximum after six hours. Oral prednisolone, administered one hour before carrageenin reduces edema by 25 at six hours, thus fulfilling the criteria for a positive evaluation of its antiinflammatory effect.
