Adherence of the bacteria as a prerequisite for beginning of the mastitis

The adherence of bacteria to epithelial cells of mammary gland of cows are important step in beginning of the mastitis. The aim of this was to examine adherence of Streptococcus agalactiae and Staphylococcus aureus to epithelial cells of mammary gland of cows. Adherence of bacteria was examined in vitro by mixing the suspension of bacteria (10**8/ml) with the suspension of the epithelial cells (10**4 - 10**5/ml). The adherence index of Staphylococcus aureus was in the range from 7 to 80, the number of epithelial cells with adhered bacteria was in the range from 16 to 76 and the number of the bacteria adhering to epithelial cells was from 41 to 757. The adherence index of Streptococcus agalactiae isolated from milk of the cows from farm was in the range from 5 to 80, the number of epithelial cells with adhered bacteria was from 32 to 74 and the number of bacteria adhering to epithelial cells was from 32 to 578.
