Protection of tomato and pepper transplants from disease causal agents, pests and weeds

Under the continental climate conditions of Yugoslavia, tomato and pepper are generally produced from transplants. As for pepper, the total of 90 of the production is carried out by applying this agricultural method. However, tomato for fresh consumption is produced from transplants, whereas tomato for processing is obtained from the direct sowing of seed. Pepper and tomato transplants are grown in heated beds, plastic houses and glasshouses. These controlled conditions with regulated heating and other facilities are favourable for germination, emergence and growth of plants. On the other hand, the same conditions are also favourable for the development of pathogens - disease agents, pests and weeds. Due to the high plant density, to the fragile structure and low competitive characteristics of young plants, great damages can be caused by pathogens, pests and weeds by applying all the measures of plant protection as well as by applying chemical pesticides. The methods and the time schedule of their application will by presented in detail in this paper.
