Leaf anatomic structure at cross section, of 12 poplar clones (section Aigeiros Duby), 4 clones each of European black poplar, Euramerican poplar and Eastern cottonwood, in three field polyclonal experiments on three systematic categories of soil (humofluvisol, fluvisol f. loamy, and fluvisol f. sandy) was investigated in the aim to assessment a possibility of utilizing some elements of leaf anatomic structure in early selection to fast growth. The results show the isobilateral structure of the leaves of Euramerican poplar and Eastern cottonwood clones, i.e. palisade tissue is present on both sides of the leaf. The diameters and heights of cuttings were measured as the parameters of fast growth. The anova indicates that there are highly significant differences between the clones and systematic categories of soil. Correlation analysis shows a positive correlation of diameters and heights with the thickness of palisade tissue.
