The results of the studies on the influence of different geological substrates in Serbia (Yugoslavia), on plant species Rumex acetosella L. are presented. These investigations included the application of morphological, micromorphological, anatomical and karyological methods. Plants, originating from different geological terrains, expressed a significant differentiation in morphoanatomical characteristics and in a level of ploidy. The results enabled to establish a degree of influence of geological substrate on plants. Under conditions at the investigated localities, it can be assumed that geological substrate is a basis for new microevolutionary unit of the plant species Rumex acetosella L.
