In this review paper are presented some actual general problems on poultry genetic resources, as well as available information about activity in this field in some parts of the world or in some countries. Conservation of poultry genetic resources first time was incorporated in poultry breeding program for whole territory of Serbia (Yugoslavia) in 1992, but some fund for this activity first time was available in 1995. In the mentioned year were reared 271 birds of Serbian Naked Neck and 280 birds of native population, as well as 2499 birds of imported breeds (New Hampshire, Barred Plymouth Rock, White Plymouth Rock, Australorp, Orpington, Partridge Italian, Rhode Island Red, Sussex, Leghorn, etc.). In 1996 were reared 264 birds of Serbian Naked Neck, 40 birds of Simbor Crested and 1245 birds of native population, as well as 21264 birds of imported breeds. It is also presented program of conservation poultry genetic resources in Serbia (Yugoslavia) in the period 1997-2001.
