During the period 1994-1995 the study of macrozoobenthos of the river Banja, right tributary of the Kolubara (Serbia, Yugoslavia) was carried out with the aim to recognize transition from spring to stream fauna. Bottom fauna of the river Banja consisted of 13 macroinvertebrate groups with 41 determined taxa. The spring was inhabited by lime springs fauna: Planaria gonocephala, Elmis maugei, Gammarus (R) balcanicus and Gammarus (R) Pulex fossarum. In the part of the flow, 26-50 m downstream the source, gradual transition from the spring to stream community occurred. Fifty meters downstream from the spring, the bottom was inhabited with diverse macrozoobenthos community, typical for upper parts of flows. Antropogenous influence in the spring was responsible for the downstream replacement of the transition "boundary" between spring and stream fauna. Further downstream to the river mouth, diversity of the macrozoobenthos was determined by several factors among which prevailed; water velocity; type of bottom and moderate organic loading.
