During the period 1991-1994 macrozoobenthos of the river Obnica (Serbia, Yugoslavia) was studied. Bottom fauna of the river Obnica comprised 106 taxa, belonging to 17 macroinvertebrate groups. The highest diversity was found at the first locality in the upstream region where 16 groups with 71 taxa were constated. The most uniform structure was found at the locality Obnica 2 downstream the mouth of the Staparica stream which carries organic load from the upstream farm. Along the river course organic load partly decompose, but the river receives several smaller organic pollution loads from villages situated upstream the third studied locality. Besides organic pollution, macrozoobenthos diversity was effected by a complex of other environmental factors, the first of all the decrease in water velocity and the changes in bottom structure.
