Influence of hydrologic parameters on detection time in shallow storages

The significance of small storages in improving water quality is increasing. Prediction of water quality changes is highly empirical as the physical, chemical and biological processes governing the change of water quality involve an extensive number of interactive factors. A numerical model for performance tracking of small shallow storages in terms of water quality change is presented in this paper, followed by the results of a sensitivity study involving hydrological parameters only, performed for the experimental wetland of Monash University, Victoria. The simulations have shown that the investigated wetland is most sensitive to the shape and the volume of the event hydrograph. The presented numerical model is a powerful aid in designing and tracking of wetland performance.
