The karyotype of the species Cyprinus carpio L. (Cyprinidae, Pisces) was analysed by a cytogenetical approach in 39 fish specimens caught in the Danube river by Zemun town (Serbia, Yugoslavia). All individuals had a diploid chromosome number 2n=104. Out of this number 24 chromosomes were metacentric (M), 12 submetacentric (SM), 12 subacrocentric (SA) and 44 acrocentric (A). The results obtained in this study are discussed in relation to relevant data from the available literature.
