The influence of crossing system on variability of fattening traits in lambs

The influence of various systems of crossing (two-breed and three-breed) on the results in body mass and body weight gain in lambs of up to 90 days of age has been investigated. The effects of crossing system on feed intake and feed conversion per unit (kg) of body weight gain have also been examined. The following sheep breeds were used in crossing: Pirot Domestic sheep, Merinolandschaf sheep and Ile-de-France sheep. It was observed that crosses obtained from three-breed crossing had greated body weight at birth, greater daily body weight gain and greater body mass at weaning on 90 days of age. Furthermore, lambs obtained in three-breed crossing in comparison with crosses obtained from two-breed crossing, also had better feedconversion, consuming less amount of hay and even less amount of concentrate per unit (kg) of obtained body weight gain at the same time. These investigations are opening new prospects for wider using of this crossing system in lamb meat production.
