Piston complex as an essential parameter of engine oil consumption

In view of the influence of analysis piston assembly on the consumption of engine oil, the permanent sealing of operating space above piston is very important, regardless of its momentary position. In order to achieve that, it is necessary to satisfy numerous requests referring, first of all, to the method of performance, the choice of material (physical, chemical and mechanical characteristics), tribocharacteristics, the quality of machined surfaces, etc. Therefore, it is very difficult to establish the interaction of above mentioned influential parameters of piston assembly and their influence on oil consumption in the engine. In this context, many manufacturers of motor vehicle engines, piston mechanisms, lubricating oils, etc., conducted comprehensive researches on the influence of piston assembly on oil consumption, and a part of those examinations is presented in this paper.
