To keep Psylla pyri population within limits of tolerance, it is necessary to be well acquainted with the biology of the pest and the characteristics and mechanisms of action of insecticides, and to scout for the occurrence of the species. The pest has two forms, winter and summer one, which have to be controlled separately. The winter form may be controlled either before leaf drop in the fall or in the spring. Fenoxycarb, a synthetic pyrethroid, is used in the former case, DNOC-based preparations in the latter. The summer form is controlled by insecticides from a group of growth regulators or those based on amitrase. Because predators play an important role in the control of the numbers of the pest, control measures should be directed towards creating an environment that would favor the predator and restrict the pest.
