Intelligent systems for air cleaning of IC engines

The basic assignment of dust separators for IC engines is to achieve high cleaning efficiency as possible, with as low resistance as possible and as long operation life of a dust separator as possible. For IC engines used in easier conditions, dust separation is usually achieved with single-stage filter having paper cartridge. When IC engines are used in dust-laden air conditions, in agriculture and construction machinery, dust separation is, then, most frequently achieved through two stages. The first stage is rough pre-cleaner, usually realized as an inertial-centrifugal multi-cyclone separator. Classic solutions of multi-cyclone separators achieve maximal efficiency only at nominal operation regimes. Their efficiency decreases at variable operation regimes and for small airflow, thus inducing the increase of maintenance costs and the decrease of IC engine operation life. The maintenance of maximal separation efficiency in whole operation range of an IC engine is achieved through combination of constant depression ejector and electronic regulation of the number of active cyclones in intelligent dust separator. The paper presents the results of mathematical modeling and original design solutions for intelligent pre-cleaner and ejector having constant backpressure.
