This study was aimed at the evaluation and selection of the best hybrid combinations obtained from the final stage of the program of tomato selection for fruit firmness. Six lines were selected from this program, of which two were characterized by uniform ripening and four of them possessing the built-in rin genes which prolong fruit ripening and, at the same time, protect the fruits very firmness. The selection of the line was carried out by combining the bulk and pedigree method up to F7 generation. Newly selected lines were crossed with the ones (ML, S-49, S-35, S-31, 93/10, 93/16 and L-4) characterized by good combining abilities especially for their yield. We tested 42 experimental tomato hybrids from the selection for increasing the fruit firmness, as well as for the basic morphological parameters that determine the yield, fruit mass per flower branch, number of fruits per flower branch, yield per plant at first three flower branches. In addition to the basic parameters, we studied the fruit firmness and their ability for surviving after harvest (shelf life). The investigated parameters of the experimental hybrid combinations were compared with the standard hybrids and varieties found in the vegetable production.
