Investigation of genetic potentials, physiological, reproductive and nutritive processes of domestic animals

Presented investigations are obtained results of the scientific project financed by the Ministry of Sciences and Technology of the Republic of Serbia (Yugoslavia), in the period 1996-2000. Coordinator of the project realization was Institute for Animal Husbandry, Belgrade - Zemun (Yugoslavia), and head of the project Academician Ratko Lazarevic. The research was carried out in 8 subprojects and numerous themes and assignments. 109 researchers from 9 research institutions and faculties were engaged in this project, 8 doctoral dissertations and 11 MA thesis completed. A great number of monographs, papers and studies of national and international significance were published (therefore the total value of the project amounts to R=1130). New genotypes of cattle, pigs and sheep were created for improved production of meat and milk. A model for the evaluation of the fattening bulls in performance test was developed, also the selection index for the evaluation of breeding value of cows and mixed model for evaluation of breeding value of pigs. New technologies in the production of beef, lamb and pork were developed. Technology for the production of phytase enzyme and its application in the nutrition of pigs and poultry was adopted. The methods - genetic test for the determination of stress predisposition in pigs and genetic test for the determination of paternity in cattle were also developed.
