Huchen (Hucho hucho) represents the greatest and most attractive salmonid fish in the European waters. Overfishing and devastation of natural habitats and spawning sites conditioned the placement of this species in the Red Book of European Fauna, while in Yugoslavia huchen has the status of natural rarity. On April 2000, a controlled spawning of huchen was performed in the trout fish pond on the river Tresnjevica amounting to 10,000 to 12,000 pieces of fertilized eggs. Following successful incubation and hatching during the summer months the young fish has been reared in the conditions of a fish-pond with the aim of achieving sizes suitable for stocking open waters. During 75 days of feeding with pelleted feed, the young fish reached an average total length of 63.5 mm, average weight of 3.81 g, while the total mortality was inferior 3% and the feed conversion ratio was 2. Aside from that 2100 young huchen have been settled in rearing streams on the mountain Tara. The rearing in the streams will be realized during 80-90 days after which the young fish will be caught for the sake of stocking of the river Drina.
