Contribution to studying of xanthan biosynthesis

Dodic, J.
Investigation of stability of xanthanogenic microorganisms production abilities and possibility of application of last running spent grains liquor and liquid fraction of corn slurry as basal/constituent medium for xanthan biosynthesis is presented. Standard chemical and microbiological analytical methods were employed and results were statistically presented. There were determined that xanthanogenic cultures could be stored on agar slants longer than three months if seeded monthly. Equal yield and biopolymer quality were obtained as results of biosynthesis of starter cultures age of 18, 12, 6 and one month on medium based on last running spent grains liquor. Liquid fraction of corn slurry could be successfully applied as source of nitrogen in the first place in medium for xanthan biosynthesis. Last running spent grains liquor was suitable as medium base for xanthan biosynthesis. Addition of necessary constituents in such medium depended of composition of last running spent grains liquor varying in dependence of season. Agitation speed and aeration intensity had great influence on quality and quantity of polymer obtained during course of xanthan biosynthesis.
