Vegetation and soils of Oplenac [Serbia, Yugoslavia]

The work is a study of vegetation and grounds of Oplenac (Serbia, Yugoslavia) on the basis of 24 phytocoenological shots and as many pedological profiles. It has brought to establish three communities belonging in two alliances. Within the alliance Quercion pubescentis-petraeae Br.-Bl. 1931 two communities were studied: forest of Vergilius' oak and flowering ash (Orno-Quercetum virgilianae (Klika 38) Gajic 1955) as well as Turkey oak and Vergilius' oak with flowering ash (Orno-Quercetum cerris-virgilianae Jov. et Vuk. 1977). Within in alliance Quercion frainetto Ht. 1954 the community of Hungarian oak and Turkey oak with Vergilius' oak (Quercetum frainetto-cerris-virgilianae Jov. et Vuk. 1977). Two types of soil were studied, rendzina (in three different varieties) and brown soil on limestone (with two subtypes). Current vegetation and determined soil ought to serve as starting point in reconstruction of forest ecosystems and on introduction of new woody species into the Oplenac parks.
