According to an analysis of phytocoenological research of more than hundred meadow and pasture communities in Serbia (Yugoslavia), it was determined that they could been classified into the several vegetation alliances from four vegetation classes, such as: Mollinio-Arrhenatheretea Tx. (lowland meadows), Festuco-Brometea Br.-Bl. et Tx. (hilly meadows and pastures) and Nardo-Callunetea Preis. and Juncetea trifidi Hadac (mountainous grasslands). The paper presents a review of the most important and widespread meadow-pasture communities in Serbia (Yugoslavia) analyzed on the basis of both phytocoenological and economical aspect. The highest economical value have shown the following phytocoenoses: ass. Trifolio pallidi-Alopecuretum pratensis (lowland meadows), ass. Agrostietum vulgaris and ass. Danthonietum calycinae (hilly meadows and pastures) and ass. Poetum violaceae (mountainous grasslands). These communities have expressed the lowest participation of very poisonous and harmful weeds in their floristic spectrum.
