Familial nutrition of school age children is characterized with limiting supply of cereals and cereal products, insufficiency of diet fibers and vitamins B6 and B12. The quantity of other vitamins of B group, as well as iron, selen and manganese from cereals makes one quarter to one half in total daily intake. Substitution of more foods high in complex carbohydrates and fiber, such as whole grains and legumes, may be one strategy to control and/or to prevent obesity, hyperlipidemia, diabetes and colon cancer.
