Traditionally, plum has been grown in Yugoslav regions in a free training system. By bringing in new varieties, newly created, introduced and innovative growing technologies, we have learnt that certain varieties give different results depending on their training system, distance between the trees etc. Plum varieties with higher growth have better initial cropping with crown shaped in palmette with sloping branches, than with other shapes of crown. In the period of full cropping of plum trees being tested, the best results were achieved with the improved pyramid, while on the other hand, the best yield per unit of crown surface was achieved with the palmette crown. In means that the distance between trees within one training system has more effect on the cropping than the shape of crown. The training system has not had significant effect on the mass of fruit.
