Azotobacter is a well-known free N-fixing microorganism that has found a profitable use in agriculture. Most bacteria from the genus Azotobacter require a minimum temperature for growth of 14 deg C. The objective of this study was to examine the rate of growth of Azotobacter chroococcum strains at various temperatures (30, 40, 50, 60 deg C). The three Azotobacter chroococcum strains studied (5,8 and 14) thrived at all temperatures. Strains 8 and 14 adapted better to the temperatures of 40 and 50 deg C than strain 5.
