This paper shows the concept of control and monitoring system for water purification plants, based on modern IT (information technology) trends. Justification and successful implementation of the concept is shown on example of reconstruction and automation of Valjevo municipality water supply system, Serbia (Yugoslavia). In the focus of this paper is aspect of the concept that enables measurable results through computer based support of maintenance, increased realibility of the system in all segments as well as statistic displaying and processing of collected data.
