The nutritive characteristics of the most popular strains of Pleurotus ostreatus in our region, marked HK 35 and H7, were investigated. Among the various media, analysis of variance showed statistically significant differences in patterns of growth on carbon sources only. Glucose was the most effective carbon source for the mycelial growth for both Pleurotus strains, HK 35 and H7. It was observed that addition of maltose and saccharose to the culture medium had the effect of enchancing the growth of the mycelia for HK 35 strain only. As for nitrogen compounds and vitamins, there was no significant differences in growth in compare with control medium (minimal medium). The results indicate that there is no significant difference in investigated mycelial nutrient characteristics between two strains of Pleurotus ostreatus (HK 35, H7).
