We have studied the effectiveness of ten Azotobacter chroococcum strains on two wheat varieties, PKB-Prelivka and NS Rana-5, grown on the hydromorphic black soil in the field conditions. Azotobacter incorporation together with wheat sowing has resulted in increases in wheat yield as well as total number of microorganisms, Azotobacter, oligonitrophilous bacteria and dehydrogenase activity of soil. The yield increases ranged from 30 to 270 kg/ha in PKB-Prelivka and from 120 to 520 kg/ha in NS-Rana-5.
