The importance of rural employment in the conditions of the Serbian economy transition [Serbia&Montenegro]
2002
Jovanovic-Gavrilovic, B. (Ekonomski fakultet, Beograd (Serbia and Montenegro))
The postwar development of Serbia's economy was followed by accelerated processes of deagrarization and urbanization, leading to numerous negative effects. Almost no working population has remaind in the rural regions, and agriculture was seriously neglected. With the inclusion into the process of transition, the problem of unemployment appeared in the cities, and the issue about returning to the villages and to agriculture emerged. The solution to the problem of unemployment in Serbia should be searched in the scope of the modern concept "integral rural development", capable to offer many opportunities for employment, as the experience of the European Union pointed to.
