The objective of this study was to investigate actual nitrogen fixation in different soybean genotypes and to determine if there is a correlation between the indicators of symbiotic association's effectiveness and soybean grain yields. A trial with 10 soybean genotypes from Maturity Group 0 was established at the experimental field of the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops in Novi Sad, Serbia (Yugoslavia) in 2000. The highest grain yield was found in the genotype NS-L-101 154, which also had the highest values of nitrogen fixation indicators (nitrogen content, whole plant dry matter mass, and whole plant length). Lines NS-L-101 164 and NS-L-201 168 gave the lowest grain yields and had the lowest values of the nitrogen fixation indicators.
