On the example of Pinus heldreichii Christ it is proven that plant and animal life of (Oro) Mediterranean originated in Tertiary. The chorological and ecological features of eumediterranean, submediterranean and (oro) mediterranean were discussed. The butterfly species whose range includes part of Balkan Peninsula were analysed and then divided in two groups: prediluvial and postdiluvial.
