In the study area, the presence of one or more elements of hazardous and harmful substances (most often Ni, Cr, Pb and more rarely As, Cd, Cu) ranged above the admissible concentrations of the total content, after the Regulation MP - Serbia (Serbia&Montenegro). Soil with no risk for production of safe food, regarding the contents of hazardous substances, cover 651,000 ha or 75% of the study area. Soils of slight and medium risk cover 51,000 ha each or 5.5% of the area, i.e. 101,000 ha for both risk categories. Soils of moderately high and high risk cover 69,000 ha, or cca 9% of study area. Soils of very high risk (all acid soils with elevated concentrations of several hazardous elements) cover 48,000 ha or cca 5% of study area. The authors recommend, along with further research, the simultaneous program of monitoring, especially for the soils with high and very high risks to the production of safe food.
