Fisheries are very important in the national economy of Uganda with 18o country's surface areqs being covered by lakes and rivers. The most important sources of fish are Lake Victoria followed by Kyoga. Albert. Edward and George Most of the fish from Lake Victoria is. however. exported leaving Lake Kyoga as the. single most important source of fish for local consumption. 'Lake Kyoga is located in the poorest region of the country and is therefore an important local source of revenue. employment and food. The Kyoga lakes consist of two larger lakes (Kyoga and Kwania) and about 24 satellite lakes most of which are surrounded by wetlands. They cover a combined surface area of about 2.800km2
