GENÓMICA DEL PAISAJE MARINO DEL RECURSO PESQUERO ABULÓN EN LA COSTA NORESTE DEL PACÍFICO Y SUS IMPLICACIONES PARA EL MANEJO

"La genómica del paisaje marino permite relacionar el efecto del ambiente con niveles de divergencia adaptativa en poblaciones de especies marinas con alto flujo genético. Los factores geográficos y ambientales dan forma a las adaptaciones locales, favoreciendo la comprensión de los efectos potenciales del cambio climático. El abulón es un recurso pesquero que se distribuye desde California (EE.UU.) hasta Baja California Sur (México) y está expuesto a un gradiente ambiental latitudinal, influido por el Sistema de la Corriente de California. Su manejo carece de información genética y trasciende la frontera internacional, donde México tiene una pesquería organizada en cuatro áreas administrativas, sostenida por las especies de abulón azul (Haliotis fulgens) y amarillo (H. corrugata), mientras Estados Unidos mantiene una veda permanente. Recientemente se obtuvo evidencia de estructura genómico-poblacional del recurso en México; sin embargo, se desconoce el efecto del ambiente sobre la variación genética del recurso a lo largo de su distribución. El objetivo de este estudio es describir la estructura genómica poblacional neutral y adaptativa del abulón, cubriendo la mayor parte de su distribución. Para ello, se procesaron librerías genómicas de un total de 257 muestras de abulón azul y 203 de abulón amarillo mediante la técnica de secuenciación ddRAD. La estructura neutral del abulón azul delimitó espacialmente tres poblaciones: 1) California, EE.UU. y Ensenada, B.C., 2) Isla Guadalupe, y 3) Península de Baja California; mientras la del abulón amarillo identificó dos poblaciones: 1) California, EE.UU. y 2) Península de Baja California. La estructura adaptativa del abulón azul no presentó variación con respecto a la neutral, en contraste con la del abulón amarillo donde se detectó una divergencia genética de dos grupos a la altura de Punta Eugenia. Ambas estructuras adaptativas se asociaron significativamente con valores máximos de temperatura superficial del mar, pero solo la estructura adaptativa del abulón amarillo empató con la estructura ambiental y las eco-regiones marinas. "Seascape genomics allows us to relate the effect of the environment to levels of adaptive divergence in populations of marine species with high gene flow. Geographical and environmental factors shape local adaptations, favoring the understanding of the potential effects of climate change. Abalone is a fishery resource distributed from California (USA) to Baja California (Mexico) and is exposed to a latitudinal environmental gradient, influenced by the California Current System. Its management lacks genetic information and transcends the international border, where Mexico has a fishery organized in four administrative areas, supported by the green (Haliotis fulgens) and pink (H. corrugata) abalone species, while the United States maintains a permanent ban. Recently, evidence of the genomic-population structure of the resource in Mexico was obtained; however, the effect of the environment on the genetic variation of the resource throughout its distribution is unknown. The objective of this study is to describe the neutral and adaptive population genomic structure of abalone, covering most of its distribution. For this purpose, genomic libraries from a total of 257 green abalone and 203 pink abalone samples were processed using the ddRAD sequencing technique. The neutral structure of green abalone spatially delimited three populations: 1) California, USA and Ensenada, B.C., 2) Guadalupe Island, and 3) Baja California Peninsula; while that of pink abalone identified two populations: 1) California, USA and 2) Baja California Peninsula.
