Spatial distribution of Hypothenemus hampei Ferrari in coffee agroecosystems of the Peruvian central rain forest | Distribución espacial de Hypothenemus hampei Ferrari en agroecosistemas cafetaleros de la selva central del Perú

Los patrones de distribución espacial de insectos plaga como Hypothenemus hampei Ferrari varían según las condiciones ambientales o fisiológicas; las variaciones de la vegetación que se producen al momento de manejar la sombra en los agroecosistemas cafetaleros, modifican la diversidad florística o la densidad de vegetación, factores importantes al momento de entender la distribución de insectos plaga en su ambiente circundante. El objetivo del presente estudio fue la evaluación de la distribución espacial de Hypothenemus hampei Ferrari bajo diferentes estados de diversidad florística en agroecosistemas cafetaleros de la selva central del Perú: El Oconal, Alto Kimiriki y Río Venado, partiendo de la hipótesis de que las diversas interacciones entre los organismos se incrementan en las zonas de mayor diversidad florística. A partir del estudio de la diversidad florística en estos lugares mediante índices de diversidad; se comparó el número de individuos de H. hampei en ocho parcelas permanentes que incluían a 10 plantas de cafeto, instaladas en cada uno de los tres sectores por el lapso de seis meses; con los datos obtenidos se realizó un análisis espacial de la distribución de individuos o insectos a través de la densidad Kernel con el software ArcGIS®. La distribución espacial del insecto estuvo condicionada hacia los sectores de mayor vegetación y sombra sin que se haya podido evidenciar una relación directa con la diversidad florística.

Patterns of spatial distribution of insect pests such as Hypothenemus hampei Ferrari can vary according to environmental or physiological conditions; the variations of the vegetation that take place when managing the shade in the coffee agroecosystems, modify the floristic diversity, an im-portant factor when understanding the distribution of insects and their natural regulators. The ob-jective of the study was the evaluation of the spatial distribution of Hypothenemus hampei Ferrari under different states of floristic diversity in coffee agroecosystems of the central jungle of Peru: El Oconal, Alto Kimiriki and Río Venado, starting from the hypothesis that the various interactions between organisms are found in the areas of greatest floristic diversity. From the study of floristic diversity in these places through diversity indexes; the incidence of H. hampei was compared in eight permanent plots that included 10 coffee plants, installed in each of the sectors for a period of six months. With the obtained data, a Kernel density spatial analysis was performed with the ArcGIS® software. The spatial distribution of the insect was conditioned to the sectors of greater vegetation and shade. The floristic diversity did not have a direct effect on the spatial distribution of H. Hampei in the study sites.
